Trip Itinerary
More information regarding the time and meeting point for the first/last day will be provided after the booking.
The excursion starts at 10:00 AM at the Gira e Rigira operational base in Santo Stefano di Sessanio, where you will be welcomed with a brief introduction to the activity and an initial meeting with the donkeys. This important first moment helps you connect with your donkey, learning how to safely lead the animal that will accompany you, your family, or your group throughout the trek. After the briefing, we will set off on an easy circular route of about 4 km, with no particular technical difficulties. Each group will have its own donkey, making the experience even more engaging by lightening the walk through carrying backpacks or, if needed, children. Along the way, we will cross charming rural landscapes of the Gran Sasso and discover the “locce,” ancient structures once used by shepherds and farmers. The destination is the panoramic Belvedere delle Locce, offering a spectacular view of the Gran Sasso mountain range and the locce plateau. Here, we will pause for a short break, immersed in the peacefulness of nature. After the rest, we will calmly return to Santo Stefano di Sessanio, completing an authentic experience that combines nature, culture, local traditions, and the special companionship of the donkeys.
